A heat pump consumes 30%-40% less energy in comparison to other heating systems. High quality heat pumps dehumidify the surroundings better than standard air conditioners. This makes them more energy efficient as they use less electricity. In addition, they keep the temperature of the room stable for longer periods with efficiency ranging from 300%-400% in comparison to other heating and cooling systems.
Types of Heat Pumps
There are two main types of heat pumps. Air-source heat pumps are inexpensive and easy to install. They do have a few limitations though. When there is a larger difference in the internal and external temperature of a building, the efficiency of these machines tends to decline.
The other type is the ground-source heat pump. These are also known as geothermal heat pumps and draw heat from the ground or from underground water. They are more efficient as the temperatures underground (below a depth of 30 feet) are relatively stable all year round.
