The lack of land to dispose garbage and many other environmental concerns are the main reasons we have to take caution on how we dispose our trash. I am sure you out there do not want to trash our future away, right?
There are many environmental friendly ways to get rid of your trash. A good example is composting your trash. It helps you save money and reduces the need for land to dispose this trash. Most people, especially those living in cities as well as towns have resorted to measures like recycling their trash to save the environment. Before you dispose your trash, you need to categorize it in order to know how to dispose it the right way. Here are some ways to get rid of the heaps.
1.Reduce and eliminate
Reduce the number of trips you make to the supermarket. Buy your products in bulk such that you have one bottle of lotion rather than three small bottles of the same. Not only is it cheaper for you to shop in bulk, but it is more environmental friendly because the amount of trash to be disposed is less. However, you should be careful not to buy your products in very large quantities such that they expire before you finish using them. If you keep getting mail that you do not need, ask that company to stop sending you such mail. This will reduce the trash you need to get rid of considerably.
2.Reuse what can be reused
There are those things in your home that you would like to get rid of but they can still be used. For instance, you can check around to see if there is anyone who would like to buy electronics or clothes you no longer want. You can hold a garage sale for this and sell those items at a low price. Electronics like computers can be sold or given away as charity. It may not appear useful to you anymore but it will be useful to someone else. Antique dealers are very fond of these garage sales as they get to buy antiques at a cheap price.
Recycling is basically processing materials that are considered waste and making them into new products to avoid the wastage of materials that still have the potential of being turned into something useful. This process reduces the usage of raw materials. It also reduces the usage of energy and pollution in the environment. You can have a separate garbage bin to place recyclable materials. Some of the materials that can be recycled include plastic cans, paper, cardboards, metal cans used for beverages and bottles.
4.Replace non reusable with reusable items
A good example of this is buying an environmental friendly bag to go for shopping with instead of getting more bags at the shop whenever you go shopping. These bags can hold more and are much more firm and durable than plastic bags. Cloth grocery bags can last for about 15 years without being spoilt. You can also invest in batteries that can be recharged instead of buying new ones every time. This is much cheaper and environmental friendly. Cloth napkins are much easier to handle than disposable napkins and they are also cheaper.
5.Help trash collectors
Not all trash can be reused or recycled; some of it can only be disposed. You should place this kind of trash separately and leave it for your area’s garbage collectors. Depending on where you live, this service may be provided for you or you may have to pay to dispose your trash at a local dump. Cities and towns are some of the places trash collectors make most money since there is not much land to dispose of trash.
However, you should not dispose of hazardous materials in your garbage cans. Instead, you should take them to a local company that will dispose these materials in an environmental friendly way. These hazardous materials may include paint cans, chemical-based products, used motor oil, rat poison, old batteries as well as nail polish remover. You can have separate trash bins for all the things you want to dispose. For example, you can have a bin for hazardous materials, a bin for regular trash and a bin for recyclable materials.
Remember, folks, be friendly to your environment and leave the world a better place than you found it!
